Trondheim Jazz Orchestra                       

Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is the leading jazz ensemble in Norway and has its origins in the reputable jazz department of NTNU.  During the course of the last few years, the orchestra has had a great number of exiting projects with Norwegian and international jazz profiles.

Just think of the great project with Chick Corea during the Molde Int. Jazz Festival in 2000 directed by Erlend Skomsvoll. In 2001, the concert was developed into a nationwide concert hall tour of Norway. In the autumn of 2004, the concert was released on a CD called “Live in Molde” (mnj cd 001). We also want to draw your attention to similar project with Pat Metheny in 2001. Even this production was developed into a nationwide tour in Norway in the autumn of 2003.

Trondheim Jazz Orchestra also made a terrific production with New York Voices in the autumn of 2002 during the annual Trondheim Jazz Festival. We are pleased that they will meet again and make a tour of Norway and Sweden in a month’s time (February 20 – 26). We are looking forward to the tour and hope that the cooperation may also be documented as a CD release.

Other collaborators that we want to mention are exiting Norwegian composers/performers such as:

Jon Balke, Terje Rypdal, Knut Kristiansen, Eirik Hegdal, Vigleik Storaas, Geir Lysne, Erlend Skomsvoll, Bendik Hofseth

These are all extraordinary personalities on the Norwegian jazz scene who have contributed to the exiting development of Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. The orchestra is operated as a musicians’ pool so that the orchestra changes as to instrumentation and size from project to project. This makes for great width in the repertory and great width in the number of musicians that are involved in the orchestra over time.
